A neck ultrasound is performed to detect abnormalities in the thyroid gland and salivary gland and to assess the lymph nodes of the neck. These also are helpful to look for benign and malignant lesions of the neck.

• Assessing thyroid gland in newborn 
• Look for new abnormalities in the thyroid gland in children and adults including thyroiditis, goitre and carcinoma.  
• Assess the lymph nodes of the neck.
• Assess salivary gland and their abnormalities like infection and stones.
